Turn Left at the End of the World
Director: Avi Nesher

Commencing just after the Six-Day War and amidst the turbulent climate of social change and post-colonialism in the ’60s, “Turn Left at the End of the World” chronicles the relations between two communities — Indian and Moroccan Jews — in a remote Israeli desert town through the eyes of two girls coming of age. Nicole (Netta Garti) is a mouthy, flirty, but also naïve Moroccan teenager, and Sarah (Liraz Charhi) is thoughtful, intelligent, if quieter and more removed, whose family has just moved in next door.

Efrat, Dafna, and Avigail are singles in their twenties, living in the same apartment building in Tel-Aviv. One evening, fate strikes. Avigail is picked up by the driver who meant to drive Dafna to a film set, Dafna is picked up by Efrat’s blind date, and Efrat, feeling deserted, starts roaming the streets. Efrta gets involved in a mysterious and violent incident that ends up with the death of a cab driver. The disappearance of Efrat makes her the only suspect in the drivers murder. Will her secret be revealed?
LIFE ACCORDING TO AGFA

In general, one could say that Tel Aviv is where worldly Israelis go to play, and Jerusalem is where religious ones go to pray. In this tragic drama, the characters are all denizens of Tel Aviv’s nightlife, and the action centers around an all-night bar owned by two women with difficult romantic relationships. The first owner is Dalia (Gila Almagor), who is the mistress of a film producer in ill health. Her co-owner is Leora (Irit Frank), whose policeman boyfriend Benny (Shuli Rand) can’t stop tomcatting around. The bar is currently populated by the owners, some well-lubricated soldiers, Leora’s boyfriend Frank, Riki (a mentally fragile woman who is “under doctor’s orders” never to allow herself to be alone), a singer, some drug dealers, and the Arabs who work in the kitchen. Benny plays the hero at first by rescuing Riki (Avital Dicker) from the soldiers, but then he seduces her, with tragic results. More tragedy follows, as the crows of truth come home to roost.
